LSD microdosing in major depression: results from an open-label trial

Updated

Abstract

Essence

An open-label phase 2A trial suggests microdosed LSD may be feasible and associated with improved symptoms in major depressive disorder.

Evidence

This 8-week open-label trial treated 19 adults with major depressive disorder with 16 home-based LSD microdoses and found no serious or severe adverse events, full clinic attendance, and a 59.5% reduction in MADRS scores sustained up to six months.

Caveat

Because the study was small, uncontrolled, and open-label, it provides only preliminary feasibility and safety data and cannot establish antidepressant efficacy.
