Using MDS-UPDRS to measure non-movement symptoms after deep brain stimulation in Parkinson’s disease
Updated
Abstract
One year following bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation, significant improvements were observed in sleep and urinary problems as measured by the MDS-UPDRS.
- No significant changes were found in individual non-motor symptoms or the total mentation score of the original UPDRS after one year.
- The MDS-UPDRS indicated a trend towards improvement in anxiety, constipation, daytime sleepiness, fatigue, and pain.
- The findings suggest that the non-motor sections of the MDS-UPDRS could effectively measure changes in non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease patients post-surgery.
