Essence

In long COVID, better Mediterranean diet adherence was linked to a more favorable vascular profile, especially in women.

Evidence

This cross-sectional study of 304 people with long COVID used the 14-item MEDAS score and vascular measures including cIMT, cfPWV, baPWV, CAVI, and VAI, and found that a diet score of at least 8 and several diet components were associated with lower cfPWV, baPWV, and VAI.

Caveat

Because diet and vascular measures were assessed cross-sectionally, with diet based on questionnaire responses, the study shows association rather than dietary benefit causing better vascular function.
