Mental health symptoms linked to immune system problems in people with long COVID

Updated

Abstract

Essence

In , depressive, anxiety, and insomnia symptoms were linked to autoantibody positivity, especially ANA with or without anti-TPO antibodies.

Evidence

This cross-sectional study of 228 adults from a long COVID program in Colombia used psychometric scales and autoantibody testing and found these mental health symptoms were associated with autoantibody positivity in participants with long COVID.

Caveat

Because this was an observational cross-sectional clinic sample, it cannot establish causality or timing between autoimmunity and mental health symptoms.
