Metabolite patterns linked to age, aging process, survival, and lifespan

Updated

Abstract

A total of 408 plasma metabolites were analyzed to identify markers of age and longevity.

  • Three hundred eight metabolites are linked to age.
  • Two hundred fifty-eight metabolites show changes over time.
  • Two hundred thirty metabolites are associated with extreme longevity.
  • One hundred fifty-two metabolites are connected to mortality risk.
  • Nineteen distinct signatures differentiate between metabolites related to compensatory aging mechanisms and those indicating cumulative damage.
  • Network analysis highlights the significant role of essential fatty acids in linking lipids to other metabolic processes.
