Measuring Minority Stress and Body Responses Using Real-Time Tracking and Sensors: Plan for a Pilot Study on Stress and Heart Health

Updated

Abstract

Twenty participants aged 18 to 27 completed 89.4% of daily surveys in a pilot study assessing minority stress.

  • Participants reported diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and racial/ethnic backgrounds.
  • The completion rate for daily surveys was 89.9%, with individual participation varying from 70% to 98.6%.
  • On average, participants wore the heart rate variability sensor for 74.6% of the expected time.
  • All participants indicated the study's time commitment was as expected, and 90% found the sensor comfortable and the app user-friendly.
  • The findings suggest that the protocol for capturing real-time data on minority stress is feasible and acceptable.
