Abstract

In a review of four trials involving 2429 participants, low-quality evidence suggests mobile phone interventions may impact medication adherence for cardiovascular disease prevention.

  • Some trials reported small reductions in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, while others showed no significant effect.
  • A text messaging-based intervention targeting adherence indicated a slight decrease in systolic blood pressure, with mixed results for an interactive approach.
  • One trial demonstrated moderate benefits on both systolic and diastolic blood pressure from blood pressure monitoring combined with smartphone messaging.
  • Evidence regarding adverse events associated with the interventions was low-quality but indicated no harm.
  • The effectiveness of mobile phone-based interventions for improving medication adherence remains uncertain, with ongoing trials expected to provide clearer insights.
