Abstract

Visuomotor adaptation (VMA) increased the overall density of fast spindles during nonrapid eye movement sleep, stage 3 (NREM3).

  • The coupling between slow oscillations and fast spindles may play a role in stabilizing human motor memories.
  • Adaptation learning enhanced the number of fast spindles linked to the active phase of slow oscillations.
  • Only coupled spindles predicted overnight retention of motor memories.
  • No change in the density of slow oscillations was observed after adaptation learning.
