Lactiplantibacillus plantarum SHOU LAC-1 reduces Parkinson’s-like symptoms caused by MPTP in mice

Updated

Abstract

SHOU LAC-1 administration at 1 × 109 CFU per mouse per day for 42 days was associated with better motor and defecatory performance in MPTP-treated mice.

  • Mice treated with SHOU LAC-1 showed partial preservation of nigrostriatal TH immunoreactivity compared to MPTP-treated mice.
  • Reduced levels of α-SYN immunoreactivity were observed in SHOU LAC-1-treated mice.
  • Increased expression of neurotrophic-support-related genes was noted in the SHOU LAC-1 group.
  • Lower levels of inflammatory markers and glial-cell-related gene expression were found in SHOU LAC-1-treated mice.
  • Enhanced antioxidant gene expression related to Nrf2/HO-1/NQO1 was seen in the SHOU LAC-1 group.
  • Changes in gut microbial diversity and serum metabolic profiles were associated with SHOU LAC-1 administration.
