Safety and immune response of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine in adults: A phase 2 controlled trial

Updated

Abstract

A total of 425 participants were vaccinated, with 381 included in the Day 29 immunogenicity analysis.

  • Most side effects reported were mild to moderate, with no serious adverse events or cases of myocarditis/pericarditis.
  • The CV0701 mRNA vaccine demonstrated a dose-dependent increase in neutralizing antibodies against ancestral D614G and Omicron BA.4-5 at Day 29.
  • Neutralizing antibody levels against ancestral D614G and Omicron BA.4-5 decreased by Days 91 and 181 but remained above baseline levels.
  • Increases in CD4+ T cells with a Th1 profile were observed in all study groups, while CD8+ T cells increased in all except the lowest dose group of CV0701.
  • Both CV0701 and CV0601 mRNA vaccines produced strong humoral and cellular immune responses with a safety profile similar to a licensed bivalent mRNA vaccine.
