Mulberry leaf flavonoids activate fat-burning tissue and turn white fat into brown-like fat to help type 2 diabetes by regulating energy-control signals

Updated

Abstract

Mulberry leaf flavonoids (MLFs) reduced body weight and food intake in db/db mice.

  • MLFs improved insulin sensitivity and alleviated hepatic fat accumulation in db/db mice.
  • Activation of brown adipose tissue (BAT) and browning of white adipose tissue (WAT) were induced by MLFs.
  • MLFs increased the expression of key proteins and genes associated with brown and beige adipocytes.
  • The mechanism involves the activation of a specific signaling pathway (AMPK/SIRT1/PGC-1α) linked to energy metabolism.
  • MLFs may offer a novel approach to manage type 2 diabetes through metabolic enhancement.
