Among 489 records identified, 42 studies met the inclusion criteria for evaluating glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists using negative controls.

  • Most included studies were cohort-based and utilized electronic health records or administrative claims from diabetes-related populations.
  • Negative control outcomes were the most frequently employed method, while negative control exposures and positive controls were used less often.
  • An explicit rationale for the selection of negative controls was reported in most studies, but assumptions underlying their analysis were not discussed.
  • The majority of negative control findings were reported as null or aligned with expectations, primarily reinforcing validity rather than altering interpretations.
