Updated

Abstract

Approximately 778 million people worldwide have been infected with SARS-CoV-2 since the pandemic began.

  • Survivors of COVID-19 may experience long-term symptoms like cognitive deficits and mood changes.
  • There is a potential link between SARS-CoV-2 infection and neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Patients with pre-existing cognitive and neuropsychiatric issues may have a poorer prognosis after SARS-CoV-2 infection.
  • COVID-19 survivors could be at increased risk for developing dementia and mood disorders.
  • Mechanisms such as immune response hyperstimulation and blood-brain barrier dysfunction may contribute to cognitive impairment.
