Hormone and inflammation responses to blood pressure medicine and breathing support in patients with high blood pressure and sleep apnea

Updated

Abstract

Fifty-four patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and 35 without OSA were included in the study.

  • Losartan significantly increased renin levels in patients without OSA.
  • Patients without OSA experienced a reduction in aldosterone levels following treatment with losartan.
  • No significant decrease in aldosterone levels was observed in patients with OSA.
  • Add-on CPAP treatment tended to lower aldosterone levels in patients with OSA but had more pronounced effects on sympathetic activity.
  • No significant changes in inflammatory markers were detected after treatment with losartan and CPAP.
