Brain-protecting effects of a new probiotic bacterium in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease caused by rotenone

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Infant-derived Lactobacillus acidophilus SLAM_LAA02 showed probiotic neuroprotective signals in worm and rotenone mouse Parkinson's disease models.

Evidence

Preclinical model experiments tested SLAM_LAA02 in Caenorhabditis elegans and a rotenone-induced mouse model, measuring lifespan, behavior, alpha-synuclein, motor function, neuroinflammation, microbiota, intestinal barrier outcomes, and neuroprotective genes.

Caveat

Because the evidence comes from worm and mouse models of early PD-like features, it does not establish clinical benefit or dosing in human Parkinson's disease.
