Persistent neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) may contribute to a self-sustaining inflammatory-oxidative network in osteoporosis.

  • NETs can promote the formation of osteoclasts while impairing the differentiation and survival of osteoblasts.
  • Accumulation of NETs is linked to increased oxidative stress and disrupted iron balance in the bone environment.
  • NET-derived substances may activate signaling pathways that enhance bone resorption mechanisms.
  • The relationship between NETs and metabolic changes in bone tissue suggests a potential mechanism for osteoporosis progression.
  • Targeting NET formation or enhancing their clearance may offer new therapeutic strategies for managing inflammation-driven osteoporosis.
