Nicotinamide Mononucleotide’s impact on retinal thickness in older people with diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Oral nicotinamide mononucleotide may help preserve retinal thickness in older frail men with type 2 diabetes.

Evidence

This placebo-controlled, double-blind randomized study compared 24 weeks of 250 mg/day NMN versus placebo in 14 eyes per group and found a significant between-group difference in retinal thickness change in the temporal outer ETDRS region.

Caveat

The evidence is preliminary because the sample was very small, included only older men, and visual acuity did not significantly change over 24 weeks.
