How night eating and sleep quality relate to quality of life in early adulthood

Abstract

Among 846 university students, 67.7% were identified at risk for night eating syndrome, which is associated with poor sleep quality and lower quality of life.

  • Eating disorders risk was found to be 38.4% among the participants.
  • All participants reported poor sleep quality, as measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index.
  • Students at risk for eating disorders and night eating syndrome had significantly lower quality of life scores compared to those without these risks.
  • A significant negative correlation exists between sleep quality and overall quality of life scores.
  • Night eating syndrome may lead to interrupted sleep due to a desire to eat at night.
