Night shifts linked to sleep quality and health in Chinese nurses

Abstract

Of the 3,206 nurse participants, 55.1% reported relatively poor sleep quality associated with night shift work.

  • Night shift nurses also experienced more health issues, with 20.7% reporting health problems.
  • The association between night shift work and poor sleep quality was significant, with a beta value of 0.96.
  • Similarly, night shift work was linked to poorer health, indicated by a beta value of 2.01.
  • Other domains of sleep quality were significantly affected by night shift work, except for sleep medication and psychological health.
