How Night Shift Work Affects Nurses' Quality of Life and Health

Abstract

197 questionnaires were analyzed, revealing significant differences in health-related quality of life among nurses working night shifts.

  • Females represented 71.7% of the sample, with a mean age of 39.2 years.
  • Males scored higher than females in all dimensions of physical and mental health.
  • General Health scores decreased by 0.17 points for each minute spent commuting to work.
  • Nurses with more years of experience reported better scores in the Physical Pain dimension.
  • AOUS nurses scored significantly lower than the Italian general population in General Health, Energy-fatigue, Social functioning, Physical functioning, and Bodily pain.
