How Nobiletin May Improve Memory Problems Caused by a High-Salt Diet Through Gut-Brain Communication Involving miR-132-3p

Nobiletin (NOB) improved spatial learning and memory in mice subjected to a high-salt diet (HSD).

  • NOB was found to counteract cognitive deficits caused by an HSD in behavioral tests.
  • Restoration of gut microbiota balance was observed following NOB treatment.
  • NOB treatment reduced serum levels of lipopolysaccharides (LPS), indicating decreased gut permeability.
  • The treatment also suppressed neuroinflammation in the hippocampus through the TLR4/NF-κB pathway.
  • The neuroprotective effects of NOB are linked to the upregulation of miR-132-3p, which is essential for its mechanism of action.
