In mice, nociceptor clock genes shaped pain sensitivity in a sex- and time-dependent way.

Evidence

Preclinical mouse study used DRG recordings, Nav1.8 optogenetics, Bmal1 disruption, transcriptomics, immunohistochemistry, voltage-clamp, and pharmacology to identify male nighttime excitability changes and ClC-2 involvement.

Caveat

The findings come from mouse DRG and mechanistic assays, so translation to human pain timing or treatment is untested.
