Nurses' views on feeling moral distress and their workplace ethics
Updated
Abstract
Registered nurses reported moderate levels of moral distress intensity.
- Moral distress is associated with perceptions of ethical climate in nursing.
- Higher perceptions of ethical climate may correlate with lower levels of moral distress intensity and frequency.
- Significant correlations exist between moral distress and each factor of the Hospital Ethical Climate Survey: peers, patients, managers, hospitals, and physicians.
- Findings suggest a need for strategies to improve the ethical climate in nursing workplaces.
