Overview of research on pregnancy and newborn health in sexual and gender minority parents and their babies

Updated

Abstract

A scoping review will systematically map the literature on obstetrical and perinatal health outcomes in sexual and gender minoritised populations.

  • Sexual and gender minoritised populations may experience worse obstetrical outcomes compared to cisgender and heterosexual individuals.
  • Infants born to sexual and gender minoritised individuals may have poorer perinatal outcomes.
  • The review aims to identify and summarize existing research on physical health outcomes for these populations and their infants.
  • Knowledge gaps in the literature will be highlighted to guide future research directions.
