How Common Obstructive Sleep Apnea Is in Patients Having Weight-Loss Surgery: A Multicenter Study

Updated

Abstract

Seventy-one percent of bariatric surgery candidates were diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).

  • The prevalence of OSA was significantly higher in males (90%) compared to females (60%) with a p-value of less than 0.001.
  • Patients with OSA had larger mean neck and waist circumferences compared to those without OSA (p < 0.001).
  • Body weight was higher in the OSA group than in the non-OSA group (p < 0.01).
  • In female patients, the only significant difference observed was in neck circumference.
