Eye Symptoms Linked to Autonomic Nervous System Problems in Long-COVID Patients

Updated

Abstract

78% of veterans with long-COVID reported symptoms of dry-eye disease (DED).

  • Nearly all assessed dysautonomia symptoms were linked with DED symptoms.
  • The strongest correlation between DED symptoms and dysautonomia was found between the Ocular Surface Disease Index and pupillomotor scores.
  • Significant associations were observed between blood pressure changes and ocular pain triggered by temperature.
  • Pupillomotor and secretomotor symptoms showed a positive relationship with DED symptoms.
  • Fluctuating blood pressure changes during orthostasis were related to neuropathic symptoms.
