Updated

Abstract

The mean composite signs severity score for patients with Sjögren syndrome was 0.52, compared to 0.43 for those without the disease.

  • More severe dry eye disease signs were significantly associated with Sjögren syndrome, facial rosacea, rheumatoid arthritis, peripheral artery disease, and daily smoking history.
  • The severity score for patients with facial rosacea was 0.47, while it was 0.43 for those without the condition.
  • Patients with rheumatoid arthritis exhibited a severity score of 0.47 compared to 0.42 for others.
  • Peripheral artery disease was associated with a severity score of 0.50 versus 0.43 for those without it.
  • No significant associations were found between dry eye disease signs and conditions like thyroid dysfunction, osteoarthritis, diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, or hypertriglyceridemia.
  • No systemic conditions were linked to the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) scores.
