How blood sugar levels during an oral glucose test relate to gestational diabetes in pregnant women

Updated

Abstract

AUC is associated with an increased risk of macrosomia in women with gestational diabetes mellitus.

  • Higher AUC values correspond to a higher prevalence of macrosomia, with a significant increase for those with an AUC of 18.00 mmol · L⁻¹ · h⁻¹ or more.
  • Women with an AUC lower than 15.00 mmol · L⁻¹ · h⁻¹ have a reduced risk of macrosomia.
  • The prevalence of macrosomia was significantly higher in overweight women pre-pregnancy (12.76%) compared to those with a normal weight (5.87%).
  • Gestational weight gain and pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) also significantly influence the prevalence of macrosomia.
  • AUC, gestational weight gain, and pre-pregnancy BMI could be considered predictors of adverse outcomes in gestational diabetes.
