Effectiveness of Oral Ketamine for Depression and Suicidal Thoughts

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Oral ketamine was associated with short-term reductions in depression severity and suicidal ideation after three sessions.

Evidence

This retrospective cross-sectional study reviewed 41 Indian tertiary-care psychiatric patients with MDD, BPAD depression, or suicidal ideation who received oral ketamine and had HAMD and MSSI scores measured at baseline and after the third session.

Caveat

The uncontrolled retrospective design, short follow-up, and limited safety data cannot establish sustained efficacy, optimal dosing, or comparative benefit.
