Oral semaglutide was linked to fewer heart failure events in SOUL participants with type 2 diabetes who already had heart failure.

Evidence

This prespecified secondary analysis of the double-blind phase 3b SOUL randomized trial included 9650 participants across 444 centers, with 2229 having baseline heart failure and mean follow-up of 47.5 months.

Caveat

The heart failure signal was a secondary analysis, differed by baseline heart failure status, and was strongest in preserved ejection fraction while not evident in reduced ejection fraction.
