Effects of the oral drug safiglipron on early type 2 diabetes in a controlled clinical trial

Updated

Abstract

Safiglipron 90 mg resulted in a 1.45% reduction in HbA1c from baseline to week 32 compared to placebo.

  • Safiglipron treatment led to significant reductions in HbA1c levels compared to placebo across all dosages.
  • 71.4-77.8% of participants achieved HbA1c levels below 7.0%, compared to 25.0% in the placebo group.
  • Fasting plasma glucose levels decreased by -2.08 mmol l-1 with the highest safiglipron dose versus placebo.
  • Modest body weight reductions were observed with safiglipron, ranging from -0.65% to -3.56% compared to placebo.
  • Gastrointestinal adverse events were the most commonly reported, primarily mild or moderate in severity.
  • Treatment discontinuation due to adverse events occurred in 1.4% to 6.9% of participants receiving safiglipron.
