Normal levels of GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon hormones in children and teens

Updated

Abstract

Reference percentiles and z-scores for GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon in 485 children have been established.

  • Age is positively associated with GLP-1 levels in both boys and girls.
  • GIP levels show an inverse relationship with age specifically in girls.
  • Insulin sensitivity, measured by HOMA2-IR, is positively associated with GLP-1 z-scores in boys.
  • In girls, glucagon z-scores are positively associated with insulin sensitivity.
  • Age, sex, and insulin sensitivity are key factors influencing incretin and glucagon hormone levels in children.
