Ongoing tissue changes linked to fibroblasts in long COVID after moderate to severe initial illness

Updated

Abstract

Fibroblast activation protein (FAP) may be visualized in patients with Long COVID using [⁶⁸Ga]Ga-FAPI PET/CT.

  • Persistent symptoms characterize Long COVID, also known as post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC).
  • Fibroblast activation protein (FAP) is associated with activated fibroblasts during tissue remodeling.
  • Lung and muscle fibroblastic activity was investigated in patients who experienced moderate-to-severe COVID-19 pneumonia over two years after the acute infection.
