How GIP Medicine Affects Insulin, Glucagon, and Heart Responses During High Blood Sugar in Type 2 Diabetes

Updated

Abstract

GIP stimulated insulin secretion and increased whole-body glucose disposal during hyperglycemia in individuals with type 2 diabetes.

  • Pharmacological GIP infusion was associated with a modest reduction in glucagon suppression.
  • Insulin sensitivity was impaired during GIP infusion despite increased glucose disposal.
  • GIP infusion also augmented heart rate and led to reduced blood pressure.
  • These findings suggest that GIP retains biological activity in type 2 diabetes.
