Piceatannol as a safe treatment to reduce aging signs in mice after radiation

Updated

Abstract

Piceatannol (PCT) significantly improved motor coordination and spatial memory in a murine model of mild aging.

  • PCT reduced systemic inflammation and levels of circulating senescence-associated factors, including insulin-like growth factor binding proteins IGFBP4, IGFBP5, and IGFBP7.
  • In the kidney and heart, PCT decreased the burden of senescent cells and inflammatory markers related to aging.
  • PCT also preserved the ability of mesenchymal stromal cells to grow and replicate.
  • These benefits were observed without any detectable toxicity in healthy mice.
