Blood-based brain age as a possible indicator of thinking ability and risk for brain disorders

Updated

Abstract

Essence

A plasma proteomic brain-age score was linked to poorer cognition and higher Alzheimer's disease and stroke risk.

Evidence

This cohort biomarker study used Olink proteomics in 53,005 UK Biobank participants and validated brain-aging associations in 2,066 Framingham participants.

Caveat

These cohort associations do not prove causality or establish clinical prediction performance despite external validation.
