Updated

Abstract

The 2023 International Evidence-based Guideline update includes 254 recommendations and practice points for managing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

  • The evidence for assessing and managing PCOS has improved over the past 5 years but remains of low to moderate quality.
  • Key updates include refined diagnostic criteria and recognition of metabolic and psychological factors associated with PCOS.
  • A new diagnostic algorithm incorporates anti-Müllerian hormone levels as an alternative to ultrasound for adults.
  • Recommendations stress the importance of healthcare professional education, improved patient information, and shared decision-making.
  • Emphasis is placed on healthy lifestyle, emotional well-being, and the management of weight stigma in patients with PCOS.
  • Medical therapy and safer fertility management options are highlighted as important aspects of care.
