Poor sleep quality linked to depression symptoms in people with heart disease

Updated

Abstract

Poor sleep quality (PSQI > 5) was reported in 100% of cardiac patients with depression.

  • Among cardiac patients, 60% without depression also reported poor sleep quality (PSQI > 5).
  • A significant correlation exists between depressive symptoms and specific sleep quality issues, including subjective sleep quality and daytime dysfunction.
  • Self-reported sleep disturbances may predict both clinical and subclinical depression in cardiac patients.
  • These findings suggest the need for psychiatric evaluation or sleep studies in cardiac patients experiencing sleep issues.
