Links between positive body image, feeling connected to the body, and thoughts about GLP-1 weight loss treatment in UK women

Updated

Abstract

In a study of 327 women in the United Kingdom, resisting objectification was identified as a significant negative correlate of considering GLP-1 medications for weight loss.

  • Body appreciation, functionality appreciation, and various embodiment factors were negatively associated with interest in GLP-1 use.
  • Body mass index (BMI) was positively associated with consideration of GLP-1 medications.
  • When controlling for age and BMI, only resisting objectification remained significantly associated with lower GLP-1 consideration.
  • The association between resisting objectification and GLP-1 consideration was independent of other positive body image dimensions.
