34 to 65.6% of stroke survivors may experience both post-stroke pain and post-stroke depression together.

  • Comorbid post-stroke pain (PSP) and post-stroke depression (PSD) are common and can significantly affect recovery and quality of life.
  • Shared biological mechanisms may include inflammation, glial cell changes, and altered neural circuits.
  • Specific treatments like SNRIs, NMDA receptor antagonists, and neuromodulation techniques could be effective for both conditions.
  • Targeting the overlapping pathways in PSP and PSD may lead to better treatment strategies.
  • Future research should focus on tailored therapies that address the unique biological aspects of each patient.
