Improving recovery after colorectal cancer surgery with combined mental health and nutrition support

Abstract

The observation group of 150 colorectal cancer patients showed significant improvements in nutritional status, sleep quality, pain management, and psychological well-being.

  • Nutritional status improved with higher serum albumin, total protein, prealbumin, and transferrin levels, along with increased body weight (P < 0.05).
  • Sleep quality was better in the observation group, indicated by significantly lower Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores (P < 0.05).
  • Pain management was more effective in the observation group, reflected by lower Visual Analog Scale scores (P < 0.05).
  • Psychological assessments indicated reduced anxiety and depression, with lower scores on Self-Rating Anxiety and Depression Scales (P < 0.05).
  • Quality of life improved in the observation group, as shown by higher EORTC QLQ-C30 scores (P < 0.05).
