Pramlintide’s effect on stomach emptying after two meals in men with insulin-dependent diabetes

Updated

Abstract

All three doses of pramlintide significantly delayed gastric emptying of the first meal (p < 0.004).

  • The effect on gastric emptying was consistent across doses of 30, 60, and 90 micrograms.
  • No significant difference was observed in gastric emptying between pramlintide and placebo after the second meal.
  • Pramlintide administration before the first meal prolonged the time to reach peak plasma levels of 3-ortho-methylglucose (p < 0.0001).
  • There were no significant effects on the plasma levels of 3-OMG after the second meal.
