Using biological age to predict healthy years and disease risk

Updated

Abstract

Aging is associated with a gradual decline in physiological function essential for survival and reproduction.

  • Alterations in specific genes or dietary factors may extend lifespan by influencing molecular pathways related to aging.
  • Chronological age (CA) is a common measure of aging, but other factors like telomere shortening may better reflect functional decline.
  • Identifying age-related hallmarks could facilitate manipulation of the aging process.
  • Aging clocks that predict biological age (BA) may provide a more accurate assessment of physiological health than CA.
  • With rising global life expectancy, aging clocks could contribute to developing therapies aimed at extending healthspan and enhancing quality of life during aging.
