How Stopping Semaglutide Before Cosmetic Tummy Tuck Surgery May Affect Recovery

Updated

Abstract

Patients who continued semaglutide until surgery had a 45% postoperative complication rate.

  • A 2-week discontinuation of semaglutide resulted in a 30% complication rate.
  • A 4-week discontinuation of semaglutide led to a significant reduction in complications to 10%.
  • The complication rate in semaglutide-naïve controls was also 10%.
  • Patients using semaglutide experienced more gastrointestinal issues and longer drain duration.
  • No reoperations or readmissions were reported in any group.
