How common leftover stomach content is in type 2 diabetes patients using GLP-1 drugs and what predicts it

Updated

Abstract

Essence

GLP-1 receptor agonist use was linked to more residual gastric content after standard fasting in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Evidence

This single-centre prospective cohort study enrolled 390 inpatients with type 2 diabetes, including 224 GLP-1 RA users, and found higher increased RGC after matching in users versus non-users (53.3% vs. 32.1%; p < 0.001).

Caveat

The study was observational and single-centre, so it identifies peri-procedural risk markers rather than proving an optimal fasting or medication-holding protocol.
