Key Patterns of Immune Proteins in COVID-19 and Long COVID

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Principal component analysis suggests that long COVID cytokine patterns cluster around local immune, neuroinflammatory, and vascular processes.

Evidence

This multiplex cytokine analysis compared 289 patients with COVID-19, 44 patients with long COVID, and 51 healthy donors, using PCA and 3D mapping to identify three cytokine clusters.

Caveat

The long COVID group was small and the cluster interpretations remain exploratory rather than validated disease mechanisms.
