Abstract

The prevalence of single deliberate self-harm behaviors among adolescents was 5.04% at wave 1 and decreased to 4.67% by wave 3.

  • Bidirectional predictive associations were identified between problematic Internet use and life satisfaction.
  • Life satisfaction was also found to be associated with deliberate self-harm behaviors over time.
  • Deliberate self-harm may predict increased problematic Internet use in adolescents.
  • Gender and age were linked to problematic Internet use, life satisfaction, and deliberate self-harm.
  • Ethnicity was found to influence problematic Internet use among adolescents.
