Effects of a single psilocybin dose with therapy on major depression in a placebo-controlled clinical trial

Updated

Abstract

A single, moderate dose (0.215 mg/kg) of psilocybin resulted in a 13.0-point decrease in depression severity compared to baseline.

  • Participants receiving psilocybin showed significantly greater reductions in depression symptoms than those receiving a placebo.
  • 14 out of 26 participants (54%) in the psilocybin group met the criteria for remission based on the MADRS scale.
  • The observed effects on depression severity were sustained for at least 14 days post-intervention.
  • No serious adverse events were reported during the trial.
