Abstract

Systemic administration of psilocybin (3 mg/kg) rapidly inhibited mouse locomotor activities, resolved within approximately 1 hour.

  • Psilocybin induced c-Fos expression in the nucleus accumbens, peaking at approximately 6 hours in neurons and 1.5 hours in non-neuronal cells.
  • The temporal profiles of c-Fos expression suggest differential transcriptional regulation of NAc neurons and non-neuronal cells.
  • Inhibition of serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptors reduced c-Fos expression in neurons, indicating their role in psilocybin's effects.
  • Inhibition of serotonin 2B (5-HT2B) receptors decreased c-Fos expression in both neurons and non-neuronal cells, suggesting their involvement in mood regulation.
  • These findings indicate that 5-HT2B receptors and non-neuronal cells may play significant roles in mood-related circuits.
