Fentanyl is the leading cause of fatal overdoses worldwide.

  • Repeated use of fentanyl may lead to substance use disorder (SUD).
  • In SUD, environments associated with drug use can trigger cravings and reward-seeking behavior even when the drug is absent.
  • Psychedelic compounds may potentially weaken the associations between drug contexts and drug-related rewards.
  • This weakening could reduce the reward-driven behavior linked to fentanyl.
